Tatreez Workshop with SAMARKAND.

Workshop. March 27, 2025. Unassigned Gallery, Brunswick. Naarm

Following the success of our first workshop with SAMARKAND in February, we’re excited to offer another enriching opportunity to learn the art of Tatreez. Join us for an immersive session where you can enhance your skills in Palestinian embroidery, discover new techniques, and connect with fellow craft enthusiasts! This workshop is designed for everyone—whether you attended the first session, are an experienced Tatreez lover, or are completely new to the craft.

Tatreez, Palestinian embroidery, is a powerful symbol of resilience and cultural identity, with designs that represent the diverse regions, traditions, and stories of Palestine. In this workshop, you will hear from Samar Abedrabo, the founder of SAMARKAND, who will share her knowledge about the cultural importance behind the unique Tatreez designs. Samar, based in Bethlehem, will join the session virtually, with hands-on support provided by the Made in Palestine and Stitch Intifada teams. Facilitated by Georgia Mulholland.

Donation’s to Made in Palestine’s work in the West Bank and Gaza are warmly welcomed, but not required.

Synopsis
When a nation-wide uprising breaks out in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, a young woman in Gaza must make a choice between love, family, and freedom. Undaunted, she embraces all three, joining a clandestine network of women in a movement that forces the world to recognize the Palestinian right to self-determination for the first time. Naila and the Uprising chronicles the remarkable journey of Naila Ayesh and a fierce community of women at the frontlines, whose stories weave through the most vibrant, nonviolent mobilization in Palestinian history - the First Intifada in the late 1980s.

While most images of the First Intifada paint an incomplete picture of stone-throwing young men front and center, this film tells the story that history overlooked – of an unbending, nonviolent women’s movement at the head of Palestine’s struggle for freedom.
